A Love Island pair have disclosed that an ITV presenter stopped filming to interrogate them about their private lives.

Series 2 champions Nathan Massey and Cara de le Hoyde represent one of the dating programme's triumph tales.

Audiences witnessed the pair encounter each other and develop romance in 2016, during the formative period of what is now a global phenomenon.

During that era, the late presenter Caroline Flack was leading the show and she accurately foresaw that Cara and Nathan were "a match made in heaven".

It transpires Caroline was so astonished by how rapidly they connected that she suspected they were acquainted prior to the programme.

"We'd never met but people thought we knew each other," Cara disclosed on the NearlyWeds Podcast presented by fellow former Islanders Tom Clare and Molly Smith, reports OK!.

Nathan added: "The first time we came in, the connection was just unreal. I've never had it before. It was like being at centre court at Wimbledon, you know? It was just back and forth."

He continued to disclose that the presenter halted recording to verify whether the pair had connections beyond the villa.

"Caroline Flack, God rest her soul, she stopped production," Nathan revealed. "She was like 'Do you guys know each other?' and we were like 'No!'"

The reality personality shared that Caroline subsequently enquired what he seeks in a partner, to which he responded "I love an a**."

Caroline then followed up by cheekily gesturing towards Cara's figure, remarking "look at that".

Nathan continued: "It was just instant. And I've never had that in my life - instant connection." A decade after their initial encounter, the pair are now wed with two children; daughter Delilah and son Freddie.

They acknowledge that they might never have crossed paths outside of the Love Island villa, despite being raised as neighbouring counties in Kent and Essex.

Cara even worked at nightclubs that Nathan regularly visited, but they never crossed paths.

Cherished presenter Caroline tragically ended her own life in 2020. The programme has since welcomed fresh host Maya Jama, who is currently leading the brand new Season 13.

The latest season of Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 9pm.
