This Morning fans fuming as Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary 'talk over' guests

This Morning viewers have slammed co-presenters Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond for repeatedly talking over guests Jodie Foster, Kara Tointon and John Thomson

This Morning: Dermot and Alison interview Jodie Foster

This Morning presenting duo Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond were the subject of a barrage of criticism on social media on Thursday after they were accused of repeatedly "talking over" their guests.

The pair have regularly been fronting the programme since Holly Willoughby's departure in October. Whilst Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley remain the bookmakers' favourites to present the show on a permanent basis, ITV have been dragging their heels over any official announcement.

Thursday's line-up, meanwhile, included Hollywood actress Jodie Foster discussing her latest True Detective work, followed by Kara Tointon and John Thomson chatting about their new Channel 5 drama, Too Good To Be True. Throughout both interviews, however, Dermot and Alison appeared to interrupt their guests, prompting viewers to hit out on X (formerly Twitter).

"What's the point in having guests on when the presenters just talk over them?" one viewer raged. Another agreed: "Will they all stop talking over the top of each other? And will Dermot ask a question and then allow the guest to answer it before suddenly jumping in and answering it himself? It's overwhelming."

A third wrote: "They invite people on for a chat and Alison and Dermot talks over them." And a fourth hit out: "Jodie Foster is on @thismorning. And @ITV thought that it was a good idea to let Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond interview her. If you can call it that. So unprofessional."

Next up was on the sofas was Lorraine Kelly - herself a topic of conversation amongst ITV this week for taking "another week off" during half term. The Scot, who hosts her own self-titled show on ITV1 has long been questioned by viewers over the amount of annual leave she appears to take.

Viewers again slammed the 64-year old, asking why she was appearing as a This Morning guest, but not on her own show - which has seen Ranvir Singh fill in for four days on the spin. "Lorraine Kelly doing every other show but her own," said one X user.

Another penned: "After failing to appear on her own show for five consecutive episodes, Lorraine Kelly is a guest on todays #ThisMorning, which is filmed in the same building as #Lorraine." A third joked: "I'm surprised Lorraine turned up #ThisMorning." Whilst a fourth explained: "I have nothing against Lorraine but i just think she should anchor her own programme #ThisMorning."

"Cat is also a very recognisable face, thanks to her long stint of working on kids' TV, although she's been over in the US for a long time." They added: "Back in the 90s and early 2000s, when she worked with Ant and Dec on SMTV Live, she was very warm and funny so it's hoped they can recreate some of that magic together. People were very impressed with her guest presenting stint last year alongside Rylan and thankfully the timing has all come together. Everyone is delighted."
