This Morning hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary giggled nervously when a guest mentioned Ben Shephard joining the ITV show live on air.
The query came from Britain's unluckiest game show contestant, Edward Oldfield, who didn't hesitate to discuss rumours of Ben rumoured new role on the ITV daytime show. It has been reported that Ben, 49, alongside Cat Deeley, will be announced as the new presenters of This Morning next month.
These two are set to permanently replace Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, despite previous reports suggesting that Cat had declined the offer. During Wednesday's (February 14) episode, as Edward shared a framed photo of Ben, he said: "I tell you what as well, because there may be a new presenter on the way and I've met Ben a number of times. So I'm going to leave that there for him, is that ok? A little mention to Ben!"

Alison and Dermot barely responded, with Dermot finally uttering "Thanks for that!", resulting in an awkward laugh. Edward then teased: "I'll get one of you two done, now that I've met you, don't worry!"
An insider spilled the beans to the Mirror, saying: "The cat's out of the bag - they are the new dream team. ITV is planning to announce Cat and Ben as their new star pairing in March. Obviously Ben is well known and loved by the ITV daytime audience thanks to his many years on the breakfast sofa.
"Cat is also a very recognisable face, thanks to her long stint of working on kids' TV, although she's been over in the US for a long time." They added: "Back in the 90s and early 2000s, when she worked with Ant and Dec on SMTV Live, she was very warm and funny so it's hoped they can recreate some of that magic together. People were very impressed with her guest presenting stint last year alongside Rylan and thankfully the timing has all come together. Everyone is delighted."
The duo are tipped to follow Holly and Phil's schedule, presenting from Monday to Thursday during term-time, while Dermot and Alison will continue to host on Fridays and school holidays. Ben's departure will be a blow for Good Morning Britain, where he often presents alongside Kate Garraway, Susanna Reid and Ranvir Singh. The show has had rotating presenters since Piers Morgan left abruptly in 2021.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITVX
