A missile warning has been issued in Dubai as residents receive alerts on their phones amid ongoing tensions with Iran. According to the intial reports, residents in UAE were told to seek shelter in a safe place amid potential missile threats.

UAE Ministry of Defence said in a statement on X: " UAE Air Defence Systems have detected a missile threat directed towards the country.

"Kindly follow warnings and updates issued through official channels. The Ministry of Defence clarifies that, if any sounds are heard, they are the result of air defence interceptions.

"The Ministry of Defence affirms its full readiness to respond to any threat and safeguard the UAEs sovereignty, security, and stability. UAE Air Defence Systems have detected a missile threat directed towards the country.

"Kindly follow warnings and updates issued through official channels.

"The Ministry of Defence clarifies that, if any sounds are heard, they are the result of air defence interceptions.

"The Ministry of Defence affirms its full readiness to respond to any threat and safeguard the UAEs sovereignty, security, and stability."

Is it safe to travel to Dubai and Abu Dhabi?

Here is the latest Foreign Office travel advice for Brits travelling to the UAE.

The FCDO no longer advises against travel to the UAE, but warns that the situation in the Middle East remains unpredictable.

However, British nationals currently in the Middle East should be prepared for possible flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions.

It also advises that if conflict resumes, to stay away from areas around security or military facilities, keep departure plans and travel documents up to date and stay indoors if they are advised to take shelter.

Strait of Hormuz to remain closed until US meets Iran's demands

Irans top negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, says the strategic Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States meets Tehrans demands, including ending the naval blockade.

President Donald Trump insists however that the straght remains open.

The 80-year-old US leader added that the United States is not engaged in talks with Iran and has not scheduled any.

Passengers should check flight status

Passengers should check their individual flight status before leaving for the airport and allow additional time for their journey.

'Steer away from windows, doors and open areas'

The following screenshot shows the Dubai emergency alert on a phone.

The emergency alert reads: "Due to the current situation, potential missile threats, immediately seek a safe place in the closest secure building, steer away from windows, doors and open areas. Await further instructions."

Arrival from Moscow into Dubai delayed

Two flydubai planes due to land in Dubai International Airport have been delayed.

One was bound from Muscat whilst the other is coming from Moscow Vnukovo Airport.

UAEs Ministry confirm suspension of trade with Iran

In a statement early on Wednesday, the UAEs Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the decision was made in light of escalations that undermine peace and security in the region.

All trade, commercial exchanges and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice, it added.

UAE has suspended all trade and financial dealings with Iran after accusing Tehran of launching two ballistic missiles towards its waters.

Iran denies the allegation.

Several flights cancelled and delayed

Several flights have been cancelled and delayed at Dubai International Airport.

Emirates has cancelled two Dubai-Bahrain flights.

Air Arabia has cancelled services to Kuwait and Bahrain.

Numerous arriving flights are also delayed.

When were the last missile warnings

This was the first warning since a false alarm in June and an alert in July for an attack that did not enter UAE territory.

Prior to this, the last missile warning came in early May.

Strikes come after UAE vessels attacked in Strait of Hormuz

The strike targeting the UAE comes days after Abu Dhabi accused Tehran of attacking two of its state-owned vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran has not claimed responsibility for the attacks on the vessels.

UAE severely struck in Iran's attacks on US allies

The UAE was severely struck in Iran's attacks on America's allies in the Middle East since the war started.

The country sustained almost 3,000 missile and drone attacks, FT reports.

UAE trade with Iran halted

The UAE's Foreign Ministry said that "all trade, commercial exchange and financial transactions with Iran have been halted until further notice".

Iran blames US and Israel

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the assessment of the situation must account for what he called the continued "malicious actions" of the US and Israel against regional peace and security, pointing to what he described as a history of false-flag operations in the region, Al Jazeera reports.

Iran says accusation 'contradicts the principle of good neighborliness'

Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its official Telegram channel:

Accusing the Islamic Republic of Iran contradicts the principle of good neighborliness and hinders efforts to build trust among the countries of the region.

Iran rejects UAE claims

Iran has rejected the UAE's accusations that it launched two ballistic missiles at the country.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei called the claim "baseless".

The Ministry of Defence has shared an update on X adding that the two missiles were targeting maritime navigation.

Both missiles fell into the sea

In the latest update on X, the Ministry of Defence said both the missiles fell into the sea.

It added: "The Ministry of Defence affirms that it remains on high alert and fully prepared to address any threats, and to respond firmly to any attempt aiming to undermine the security of the UAE, in a manner that safeguards its sovereignty, security and stability, and protects its interests and national capabilities."

The UAE Ministry of Defence said in an update that the air defenses detected two ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward the country, with the first falling outside the country's territorial waters, while the second fell within the territorial waters.

People have been urged to remain in "safe location" as UAE air defence systems detected a missile threat today.

The Emirati Defense Ministry said on X that it "confirms its full readiness to respond to any threat and maintain the sovereignty, security and stability of the United Arab Emirates."

When was the last alert issued?

Previously, the Ministry of the Interior sent an alert to phones in Dubai on Friday, June 26.

At what time the alert was issued?

An emergency alert was sent to phones in Dubai for the first time in more than a month and a half on Tuesday August 18 at around 6.50pm (2.50pm in UK).

What does the alert say?

The alert reads: "Thank you for your cooperation. We reassure you that the situation is currently safe. You may resume your normal activities while continuing to remain cautious and take the necessary precautions, and to follow official instructions. (MOI)."
