Emmerdale favourite shares update on John Sugden and fans will be devastated
EXCLUSIVE: Emmerdale star Casey Al-Shaqsy has issued an update on her on-screen cousin John Sugden
An Emmerdale actress has issued a new John Sugden update. ITV soap fans will recall that villain John (portrayed by Oliver Farnworth), who was killed off in the Corriedale crossover, is the cousin of village arrival Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy). Serena originally maintained she had not encountered John in years, but an examination of her mobile phone by Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) revealed photographs revealing they spent time together while John was on the run last year.
The newcomer subsequently confessed that John was exceptionally generous towards her family, even withdrawing his army pension prematurely to rescue her mother's failing farm. Serena therefore conveyed astonishment upon discovering John's criminal conduct in the village, including the death of Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), reports OK!.
She subsequently stated that she wished to utilise the remaining pension funds to provide financial assistance to John's victims, including Nate's daughter, Frankie (Eden Ratcliffe-Knights).
Speaking exclusively to OK! Magazine at a recent Emmerdale press event in Leeds, Serena actress Casey Al-Shaqsy provided an update on John. When questioned whether Serena's link to John would be examined further, the actress said: "As far as I'm aware, that has been resolved.
"It was obviously [about] the money... Serena wanted to help the people that he'd hurt. I know she kept things a secret, I like to always say she never lied, she just didn't tell the whole truth! But you've always got to support the people that you play."
Continuing to discuss John's storyline, Casey went on: "I think that's done, but who knows. She was close with him, she's been honest about that and been honest that he broke her trust.
"He lied to her a lot, which he did with a lot of people in the village. So, who knows if it comes back up because it's messed with her mentally.
"Or you also don't know a lot about Serena, and there's a world where John is responsible for some of it, so who knows? That is nothing that has been confirmed or discussed! That's just in my own brain going maybe there's a world, but as far as I'm concerned, it's done."
The drama has surrounded Serena lately as she notably assisted Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), following Sarah's accidental killing of Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker).
As the investigation into Todd's death continues, it emerged on Monday (August 17) that Serena shares a close friendship with new police officer DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge), who appears to harbour animosity towards the Tates.
Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
