Certificate in U.S. Health Law
Georgetown Law offers the Certificate in U.S. Health Law, designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of health care law and regulation in the United States, including public health programs and regulations, health care access and financing, the private insurance market, and Medicaid.
The Health Law Programs at Georgetown Law train lawyers to apply their specialized legal skills to improve public health in the United States and globally. The Health Law Programs comprise the LL.M. in National and Global Health Law(This link opens in a new tab),joint LL.M. in Global Health Law and Governance(This text opens in new tab.) with the Geneva Graduate Institute, Certificate in Food and Drug Law(This text opens in new tab.), andCertificate in U.S. Health Law.
The requirements for the Certificate in U.S. Health Law are:
- Successful completion of at least 10 credits of specialization coursework listed under the U.S. Health Law Certificatein theCurriculum Guide, which includes one of the following required courses:
- Health Care Law and Policy (4 credits), or
- Regulating Private Health Insurance and Health Care Prices: Legal and Policy Disputes (3 credits)
- A minimum grade point average of B- or higher in the courses that are counted toward the Certificate requirements.
Please note that Health Care Law and Policy will not be offered in the Fall 2026 semester.
- The Certificate in U.S. Health Law can be pursued in conjunction with the LL.M. in General Studies or LL.M. in National & Global Health Law degrees.
- J.D. students are not eligible to pursue the Certificate in U.S. Health Law as part of their J.D. degree studies.
- Students cannot be admitted into the Certificate in U.S. Health Law program on a standalone basis.
- Students who wish to apply for the Certificate should do so by notifying their LL.M. Program Director no later than the last day of add/drop activity in the last semester before their graduation.
