Hanley's former Meat Market is one of Stoke-on-Trent's most recognisable buildings. The Grade II listed building on Tontine Street was built in 1831 and housed the market until 1987.

It then became a shopping centre. It now houses a Wetherspoons, the Reginald Mitchell, and a Waterstones.

This week, StokeonTrentLive shared a photograph from the archives showing the Meat Market in its days as a shopping centre. The photo featured a local favourite, the shop Rescue II.

Now StokeonTrentLive readers have been sharing their memories of the market.

The picture brought back memories for Emma Fairbanks, who said: "I'd completely forgot it used to be a shopping centre!"

Jaki Lloyd-Jones wrote: "My boss had the hairdressers upstairs. I worked there occasionally. Loved the place. There was even a Benneton in there. It was when Hanley was a great place to shop and club."

Hayley Marie remembered: "Great little arcade. Spent my earnings buying my clubbing outfits in there."

Lisa Bridgwood said: "I loved it like this, and the food courts in the shopping centre."

Kate Platt said: "I ran a little boutique with ladys clothing downstairs near the water fountain called Fizz fashions in the early 90s."

Scott Hancock said: "Used to be a cool boutique upstairs that sold designer clubwear like Destroy and Duffer."

Christine Griffin recalled: "I visited the meat market every week with my mother-in-law."
