A woman who grew up with the rule you had to clear everything off your plate ballooned to 30 stone after developing an unhealthy relationship with food. Danni Delaney says she had never had a healthy diet.

The customer service advisor from Lichfield, Staffs, said: Growing up, we always had to finish everything on our plate. But we grew up in the 90s and 2000s with a mum who worked long hours, so our diet mostly consisted of chicken dippers, chips, and similar foods.

Despite that, food was always at the centre of everything we did.

Danni, 30, struggled to control her emotional eating. I was always aware that my weight was creeping up due to binge eating, says Danni. " I distinctly remember weighing myself at a very young age and being 18 stone. It was a problem, but at the time, I wasnt in a place to face it properly.

It got to the point that her size affected not just her health, but also her confidence and relationships. I felt frustrated and unhappy, Danni said. On walks, I would often cry because I felt like I was holding both my husband and myself back from enjoying life. Unfortunately, when I was unhappy, I would binge eat, so nothing ever really changed.

Danni decided to overhaul her nutrition and exercise plan in April 2025. Husband Thomas helped Danni to plan meals, encouraged regular walks, and cheered her on during tough moments, like attempting a hike up Mam Tor, where panic attacks and chest pain tested her determination.

Using the MyFitnessPal app to track calories and gradually adding walking, gym workouts, and strength training, Danni built sustainable habits that worked for her body and mind. I started by walking more, but quickly realised that movement alone wasnt enough. What I was eating also needed to change, she says. Thats when I began using MyFitnessPal. Once I felt comfortable with walking, I started going to PureGym once a week and gradually increased my sessions.

MyFitnessPal became my favourite tool. It helped me track my calories and monitor what I was actually eating. On days when I stayed within my target, I could see what I had left for the rest of the day. This meant I could still enjoy family meals or dining out without feeling guilty.

I also loved that you could add friends, so if I was eating something similar to my husband, I could copy his meal to my account. Another feature I found motivating was adding progress photos. Seeing a side-by-side comparison of where I started and where I am now really helped, especially during times when I experienced imposter syndrome or body dysmorphia.

After a month of starting she had lost a stone. After three months she had lost three stone. From weighing over 30 stone (193.7kg) and wearing a UK size 32, she now wears a UK size 26 and weighs 24.7 stone (157.3 kg).

Her target weight is 14 stone. Im excited to spend more time outdoors, go camping, and climb mountains, Danni adds. Everyone notices the difference! They say I look happier, my clothes fit much looser, and my husband is thrilled too. He can enjoy long hikes again, which benefits both his and my mental wellbeing.

A month ago, I climbed the same hill that used to leave me breathless and crying - and this time I did it with a huge smile on my face. Im nearly halfway to my ultimate goal, and every step feels like a victory.
