The M6 in Staffordshire was closed southbound after a collision involving an overturned car.

The closure was between Junction 16 (Crewe) and Junction 15 (Stoke-on-Trent), National Highways said.

Emergency services, including Staffordshire Police, were in attendance.

Traffic officers were at the scene and assisting with traffic management.

M6 reopens, National Highways says

The M6 has fully reopened southbound in Staffordshire between Junction 16 (Crewe) and Junction 15 (Stoke-on-Trent), National Highways West Midlands said in a post on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.

"Delays should now start to ease. Thanks for your patience this morning," the traffic authority said.

Football fans could face delays travelling to matches

The M6 southbound will likley be congested through Cheshire and Staffordshire even after the road reopens, The Mirror reported.

There is a full Premier League, English Football League schedule and FA Cup games today.

Those travelling to the Huddersfield game should be aware of congestion as the M6 may be used for their trip to Cardiff.

The M6 will also be used by Bolton Wanderers fas as they travel to watch their team play away at Swindon Town.

National Highways issues diversion route

National Highways has advised southbound traffic to follow the hollow square diversion symbol:

  • Exit the M6 southbound at J16
  • Join the A500 southbound and continue around Stoke-on-Trent
  • Re-join the M6 at J15
