Two new memorial plaques have been unveiled in Stoke-on-Trent to honour the sacrifice of 149 'forgotten' soldiers. Each of the men listed at Fenton Town Hall laid down their lives in World War One and World War Two.

Although a memorial had been in place, the bravery of these troops had been lost to time - until now. Through the efforts of historian Tony Davies, each of these soldiers will now be commemorated alongside their fellow fallen comrades.

Unveiled in a powerful ceremony by Stoke-on-Trents Lord Mayor Steve Watkins today (July 8), the men were then blessed by Minister Glen Parks of the Temple Street Methodist Church.

The plaques have been funded by the Great Fenton Community Association. They were then installed free-of-charge by Fenton traders Leon Yewdell, Jason Wood, Mark Gallagher and Andy Tinsley.

Cheryl Gerrard, Chair of the Great Fenton Community Association, said: Its a great thing. Its something were all really proud of. Lots of members of the community have got involved along the way and now were honouring the men who gave their lives. Its been a long time coming but weve finally got there. Were all so happy.
