A red route

Controversial plans to install double-red lines on two town centre roads have been scrapped. Stoke-on-Trent City Council had staged a consultation over plans for double-red lines on Market Place, in Burslem, as well as on a section of Moorland Road, from Westport Road to Jackson Street.

It would have hit motorists with 70 fines for simply pulling over on the two roads.

But the council is still pressing ahead with a separate plan to install extra parking spaces and additional crossing points on Queen Street with work starting last month.

A council spokesperson said: We launched a consultation that included both parking measures and potential red routes in Burslem. After further discussions, the decision was made to separate the two proposals and to not take the red route proposals forward."
