Police, fire crews and paramedics on shut Stoke-on-Trent A50

Police shut off the A50 in both directions after concerns were raised for a man's welfare. Emergency services were sent to the stretch between Sideway and Fenton at around 3.05am this morning.

And the force was joined by crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service. During the height of the incident and the road was closed off in both directions.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called to the A50 near the bet365 Stadium following concern for the welfare of a man. Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"The man was taken to hospital by paramedics."
