Police investigating the theft of a car 'with a child inside' have bailed their suspect. Officers had been called in after the car was swiped from outside a house on Taylor Avenue, in May Bank.

The vehicle was found on nearby Wayside Avenue just seven minutes later - with the child not hurt. The drama unfolded at 1.40pm on Monday 20 July.

Police later arrested a 23-year-old man, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "The man we arrested has been bailed while enquiries continue."
