The Met Office has announced its final verdict over whether there will be more hot spells in the near future after the United Kingdom's third heatwave in 2026.

The UK's national meteorological service issues local forecasts for the upcoming seven days. If you want to plan further ahead, it offer long-range predictions for the country as a whole. Saturday, it says, is likely to be "largely fine with bright or sunny spells, most prolonged in the far west". There could be some isolated showers that may turn thundery, and it is likely to be less hot than in recent days.

Sunday through to Tuesday should "remain fine and dry with sunny spells", however some rain is possible in the north. Looking further ahead, to the period from July 21 to July 30, conditions should be "initially predominantly dry with large sunny spells away from the northwest where cooler, cloudier and wetter conditions are most likely".

Southern areas may see some isolated showers, and it should then become "very warm again in parts of the south" before the weekend (July 24 and 25) "introduces a more widely unsettled and showery period". Forecasters add: "Toward the end of the month uncertainty increases, but potentially returning to a drier, settled and warm period, in the south especially."

In its outlook for Friday, July 31, through to Friday, August 14, experts predict a "somewhat more changeable period" with some showers, though "temperatures are likely to be above normal with some hot spells possible".
