If writable/readable has been explicitly disabled then using
a Duplex as writable/readable should fail.

Fixes: #34374

I'm a little unsure whether we should be re-using the ended/ending state or just check writable/readable and throw a new type of error.

This looks good so far but the tests should also include an async iterator over a non-readable Duplex to make sure that it ends correctly (the for await loop should just exit immediately)

I think this will break https://github.com/TooTallNate/node-https-proxy-agent (TooTallNate/proxy-agents#104).

Seems like I was a bit too quick. test/pseudo-tty/repl-dumb-tty.js fails on CI but not locally. I can't fix this test and I've tried on multiple occasions. Would it be ok to just disable it? Otherwise, I don't think this will ever land. @addaleax?

tightened restrictions on the allowed algorithms and key sizes.

If you hit an `ERR_OSSL_EVP_UNSUPPORTED` error in your application with
Node.js 17, it’s likely that your application or a module you’re using
is attempting to use an algorithm or key size which is no longer allowed
by default with OpenSSL 3.0. A command-line option,
