15 injured after car ploughs into crowd at Mexico festival

A blue sedan struck pedestrians, injuring several people. The driver has been detained and officials say a medical issue may have been a factor.

Video footage has documented the horrifying moment a vehicle ploughed into festival-goers at speed.


Pedestrians can be seen strolling through a walkway on Wednesday, August 12, in the Mexican city of Zacatln when a blue sedan rammed into them.


The clip records the panicked shrieks as people fled from the scene.

Zacatln City Council has confirmed there were no deaths.

Zacatln's Mayor, Bety Snchez, posted on X: "It is important to clarify that, unfortunately, 15 people were injured in this incident; they are stable and out of danger. I also want to clarify that there are no deceased individuals."


The Chevrolet came to a halt after smashing into what looks like a concrete column.

The vehicle burst through from the Hotel Zacatln vicinity before crashing beside the Apple Pavilion.

The motorist was apprehended and multiple attendees at the Gran Feria de la Manzana (Great Apple Fair) sustained injuries, according to local media reports.


Red Cross medics are at the location.

Mayor Snchez wrote in a separate X post earlier on: "We immediately activated the emergency response protocols."

She added that the vehicle is in custody and the driver has been detained.

"He appears to have some health issue that may have been the cause that triggered this incident, but acting responsibly and in accordance with regulations, we need the necessary expert examinations to be conducted to confirm or rule out this version," the mayor said.
