Don't let anyone tell you Leeds United star Dan James doesn't know how to shrug off criticism.
One week after missing the penalty that sealed Wales' elimination from the Euro 2024 play-offs, the winger proved his confidence hasn't been knocked by the setback. At least not if a 50-yard finish against Hull City to put Daniel Farke's side second in the Championship standings is any measure.
Things were in the balance for much of Monday's evening fixture after Fabio Carvalho scored to cancel out Sam Byram's goal before the break. However, Crysencio Summerville's penalty followed by James' 97th-minute snipe ensured their temporary return to the automatic promotion places.

Hull were camped around the Leeds box in their search for an injury-time equaliser, which left goalkeeper Ryan Allsop acres from home when Joel Piroe found James on the right. And the Welshman didn't need a second touch to prove he remains unfazed despite that decisive miss for the national team against Poland.
"Scores that but misses from 12 yards," wrote one regretful fan on social media. And they weren't the only ones to note James' quick turnaround after his part in Wales missing out on a place in Germany this summer.

"Bro scored the half way line but not from the penalty spot," bemoaned another critic. However, some saw the more positive angle to James' quick reply as one social media user remarked: "Great finish and confidence booster after last week."
It was just as well James found his finishing boots in the end after Patrick Bamford missed his mark in a major way earlier on Monday. It was James' cross that found the frontman with an open goal ahead, only for Bamford to sky his attempt miserably over.
Rob Page's men were prevented from going to a third straight European Championship after a shootout loss to the Poles in Cardiff. And James - who was fifth on Wales' list - was the only player who took part and failed to find the back of the net.
Nevertheless, Farke has kept the faith in his forward and was rewarded for that loyalty on Monday. James now has 13 Championship goals this season as Leeds leap to second and one point above Leicester City - albeit having played one game more than the Foxes.
