MotoGP star Alex Marquez dramatically threw up in helmet before crashing out of the Americas Grand Prix sprint race.

The Spanish racer took to the track on Saturday afternoon full of vigour following his previous podium finish in Argentina. But his hopes of a repeat performance were brought to a swift end when he veered out of control on Turn 12 of the 10-lap race.

Luckily, the crash wasn't too bad and he emerged from it unscathed. And after the race, Marquez explained what caused the astonishing accident. He revealed, while declaring he's raring to go for today's Grand Prix tonight: "I was feeling good performance-wise in the race, as despite a crash in qualifying we still had the confidence and a good pace.

Unfortunately, I wasnt feeling good physically and I even threw up under braking at Turn 12 and crashed. I freed myself after the race and now I feel quite well, and ready to make amends tomorrow [in the grand prix]."

He vomited once again upon returning to the garage, and the 26-year-old further elaborated on what made him feel ill and what his body was going through in the moment to DAZN. He added: "I tried not to get nervous, but halfway through the race I started to feel sick to my stomach and I vomited as I braked.

It is as if the body has collapsed. I don't know. Something has made me sick with the food, although I have eaten the same as always. For whatever reason, I have thrown up.

Then, when I got to the garage, I vomited again, but now everything is clean. Something has felt wrong. Now to rest for [Sunday]. It will be a long and hard race. We have rhythm.

I ran out of steam, but we could keep up, which makes me happy. To improve the starts, which is the key point." Marquez now goes into the GP in fourth position, while reigning MotoGP champion Pecco Bagnaia heads into the main event in pole position after winning the sprint race last night.
