Original Story Follows - A new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update is now live on Nintendo Switch bringing the game up to version 1.3.0

As with any update in the game, you need to be updated to Version 1.3.0 to play online multiplayer with other players.

Players will also be unable to access other network features unless they update.

For the time being, no official patch notes have been shared by Nintendo. Neither from Nintendo's Japanese website (who normally have them first) or Nintendo of America.

At the time of writing, these are the only patch notes available as they haven't been published in English to the Nintendo of America website.

HOW TO UPDATE ANIMAL CROSSING ON NINTENDO SWITCH?

In order to update Animal Crossing New Horizons, you need to follow the steps listed below:

Connect the Nintendo Switch console to the internet.
Return to the HOME Menu and launch the game.
The update will be downloaded and installed automatically.
Once the update is installed, the newest version number will be displayed on the title screen.

Animal Crossing New Horizons Update 1.3.0 Patch Notes

[UPDATE - English patch notes now added] - For the time being, the only official patch notes come from Nintendo's Japanese website and can be seen further down.

At the time of writing, these are the only patch notes available as they haven't been published in English to the Nintendo of America website. We normally see the English language patch notes shared much later and we'll be sure to check everything matches up.

For now, here is a rough translation of today's new patch notes for update 1.3.0

Ver. 1.3.0 [Released July 2, 2020]

The software has been updated if you see Ver. 1.3.0 in the upper-right corner of the title screen.

General Updates:

Players can now wear a wet suit and go diving in the ocean.
Players can now catch sea creatures while diving, which they can then donate to the museum.
Players can now encounter new visiting characters somewhere on the island.
Nook Miles can now be traded for new items.
New seasonal items have been added to the Nook Shopping catalog, available for limited time only.

Fixed the following issues:

The names of several fish have been fixed in Korean and Simplified Chinese.
Addressed issues to further ensure an enjoyable gaming experience.

Another Summer update is due to arrive in early August. This would be the second and last Summer update for the game this year.

So far Nintendo have not shared further details on what content improvements they'll add in August. Hopefully, more details will be shared in the coming weeks.
