PlayStation State of Play predictions: Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and Marvel expected

Sony will hold a summer event after all, but what will it show? Weve got the rundown of our PlayStation State of Play predictions, so what will we see?

Could we see Part 3 soon?(Image: Square Enix / Creative Business Unit I)

We had felt as though Sony was prepared to have a quiet June this year, with Nintendo Switch 2 launching tomorrow and Xbox holding its own showcase as part of Summer Game Fest on Sunday.

Not to be left in the cold, though, the company announced yesterday that it will hold another State of Play event, and has promised more than 40 minutes of information and footage on must-play titles.

Naturally, a big part of the fun is predicting what could be there, and as a result, weve put together our gaming expertise to predict what well be seeing. Ghost of Yotei? Marvels Wolverine? Naughty Dogs Intergalactic? Heres what were expecting.

The State of State of Play

State of Play is back

Its worth noting that Sony had a State of Play at the end of Apri, which showcased one game: Borderlands 4. Were not expecting Gearboxs shooter to pop up in this one as a result, while many of the bigger titles from Februarys State of Play are already out, too.

Monster Hunter Wilds, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii, WWE 2K25, and Split Fiction are already here, so what could this event hold?

Fans are desperate to see Insomniac's Wolverine, a PS5 exclusive

Well get this out of the waywell eat our collective hats if GTA 6 is shown in any form other than just replaying the same (excellent) Trailer 2 weve already seen.

While Sony may have secured marketing rights for the game, were only a few weeks removed from the most recent trailer.

With that in mind, we reckon well see something from Project Century, from RGG Studio. Now that Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is out, the studio is reportedly working on a Yakuza 3 remake and Project Century, which looked incredible at The Game Awards.

We wouldnt be surprised if Microsoft popped up, too. The company has fully embraced its multiplatform future, and while DOOM: The Dark Ages and Indiana Jones have made the jump to PS5, theres another Bethesda game that hasnt: Starfield. We reckon the game will be announced for PS5, and probably include the Shattered Space DLC, too.

We also know that Gears of War is making its PS5 debut with Reloaded, so a gameplay demo would be very welcome.

Were also particularly hopeful well get something from Insomniac Games. The studio responsible for the excellent Spider-Man games suffered a huge leak which suggested a Venom game is in development alongside Wolverine, as well as a multiplayer Spiderverse game.

Ghost of Yotei is Sonys big exclusive this year, but wed imagine itll get its own State of Play nearer to launch. Still, we might get a fresh trailer, and wed expect to see more of the Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater Delta project, too.

What we hope for

Will we ever get Bloodborne on PS5 or PC?(Image: FromSoftware)

Predictions are great, but what about our dreams? Resident Evil games have a history of being revealed at State of Play events, but with Summer Game Fest just days away we wonder if Keighley has nabbed that reveal for his show instead. In any case, Resident Evil 9 is likely the next big game in the series.

While were on the subject of Capcom horror titles, wed love to see Dino Crisis again, but were probably deluding ourselves.

When we spoke to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi last year, he told us the game wouldnt get DLC so the team could focus on the third part of the trilogy. Given the second chapter arrived in early 2024, could we get a teaser for the next chapter? Heres hoping.

Lastly, we just really want to play Bloodborne at a higher frame rate. Whether that comes via PC port or PS5 upgrade, we'll take it.

How to watch the event
