Brits looking to take a city break to a lesser-visited hotspot can discover mountains, fjords and medieval fortresses in Bergen, Norway.
Jet2 has been flying to the city for 15 years, but from this spring will also put together package holidays to the Norwegian beauty spot with Jet2CityBreaks.
Jet2 flies to Bergen from Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds Bradford and Newcastle international. Skycanner has return flights listed from just 65 so theyre pretty reasonable too.

The charming city sits nestled between seven mountains and surrounded by fjords so it's a dreamland for outdoorsy folks. It also boasts colourful houses which line its UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf and jaw-dropping vistas visible from Mount Flyen and Mount Ulriken. The rugged landscape will impress no matter the time of year.
The above mentioned wharf is a must-visit for anyone who heads to Bergen especially keen photographers, sketch artists and history buffs. It has wonderfully preserved wooden buildings dating back to the Hanseatic League's trading empire as well as winding alleyways, lots of boutique shops and the town has museums for art, music, history and more.
We'd recommend checking out the KODE Art Museums, which house an extensive collection of Norwegian and international art, and the Bergenhus Fortress, a medieval fortress with a fascinating history. The fortress contains buildings dating as far back as the 13th century, but also has some new additions as modern as World War II.
Bergen is, of course, a gateway to Norway's famous fjords narrow sea inlets with hauntingly high surrounding cliffs including the iconic Nryfjord and Sognefjord. You can easily book a scenic boat cruise to stare at the towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and serene waters of the natural wonders.
If you're all about getting the best views and snaps then hop aboard the Flibanen funicular for a ride up Mount Flyen. At the top, you will get sweeping views of Bergen. There are also hiking trails, a restaurant, and playgrounds, making it a great spot for outdoor activities. You can go hiking, cycling, kayaking, or even fishing in the surrounding mountains and fjords which is heaven for outdoorsmen and women.
If you want to get stuck into local culture then check when some of the major festivals are being held in the city it hosts Bergen International Festival, Bergen Food Festival, and Bergen Jazz Festival among others. You can also dive into the local cuisine which, unsurprisingly, is often based on fish and seafood thanks to the areas maritime history. Local specialities include a creamy fish soup, brown cheese that tastes like caramel and krumkake a thin, crispy Norwegian waffle cookie!
Stein Ove Rolland, CEO of Fjord Norway, said: "We are experiencing a steadily increasing interest among Brits who seek to experience the iconic Norwegian fjord landscape. With refreshing nature experiences and strong contrasts, and a region rich in culture, history and cities with small town charm, Fjord Norway has become an attractive destination for British people. Jet2 has now made it very easy to travel directly to Bergen, right in the heart of the Norwegian fjords."
You can book your flights and accomodation sepeartely or try one of Jet2's city breaks which generally cost around 550. For further information and to book visit www.jet2.com or www.jet2holidays.com
