Legendary broadcaster Don Clark has died at the age of 85. Confirming the news, the anchor's long-time news station, KBAK, announced his passing on Wednesday (5 August). Well known in Kern County, the television journalist appeared on KBAK from 1987 to 2004, becoming a trusted figure on local news.

Following the news of his passing, tributes have poured in, with KBAK leading the charge. "For 17 years, Don was a trusted voice in local news, welcomed into homes across our community with warmth, authenticity and compassion," read a statement shared on Instagram. "Beyond the anchor desk, he dedicated countless hours to supporting local organisations and charitable causes throughout Bakersfield."

A former colleague, Bob Prater, has also reflected on Clark's legacy. "I heard of the passing of Don Clark this afternoon. And the memories began to swirl," he began.

"Don and I were business partners for several years. From 2010 until 2015 or so, we did our level best to conquer the world. I'll always be thankful for his sizable intellect and for opening doors for me to discover a bit more about why I'm here.

"If it weren't for him, I would have never co-authored A Language of Healing for a Polarised Nation. When he read it, he was generous in his praise, telling me I owed him a night's sleep, since he'd been up all night reading it.

"I remember a time when he was in the office, working beside me, when he asked a basic question about his computer. I helped him, but later that day I asked him if he knew the word for someone who is frightened of technology. He was a genius with words, so he looked up and proudly said, 'Why yes, Bob. It's Luddite - HEY!' We both laughed for about five solid minutes. One of the greatest characters I've EVER known. And perhaps the smartest. Even if he was a Luddite. Rest in peace, old friend."
