Summary

Add a LastAlertDetection module for SMARTCAM devices exposing getLastAlarmInfo as two Info sensor features:

  • last_alert_timestamp — tz-aware datetime of the last alert, None when the device has never detected anything (last_alarm_time is "" or "0" on such devices, and an unexpected value is also mapped to None rather than breaking feature access);
  • last_alert_type — LastAlertType enum (Motion; Unknown fallback with a one-time warning per unknown raw value), None when unset.

The module is gated on the detection component, which matches exactly the fixtures that have getLastAlarmInfo (19/22; the three H200 hub fixtures have neither). The getter is added to the existing batched update() request, so there is no extra round-trip.

Motivation

Cameras have no local push mechanism for detections. The practical alternatives were measured on a Tapo C200 (HW 1.0, FW 1.3.17, fixture in #1760), polling every second over SslAesTransport:

Mechanism Works without SD card Latency after camera timestamp Notes
getLastAlarmInfo yes < 1.2 s on 13/13 distinct events (2 × 300 s runs) RTT ~60 ms; timestamp advances every second while motion continues
searchDetectionList (pytapo getEvents) no (-71105 PLAYBACK_SEARCH_FAILED) 15–25 s recording segments: end_time keeps extending, close events merge
ONVIF PullPoint yes sub-second requires an ONVIF client; see #1388

getLastAlarmInfo is the only one that is both cheap and available on every camera, and the value is refreshed within the polling interval. The polled value is a "last event" and not an edge, so consumers (e.g. a Home Assistant timestamp sensor) can derive an event from a change of the timestamp.

Testing

  • tests/smartcam/modules/test_lastalertdetection.py, parametrized on all 19 SMARTCAM fixtures with the detection component: module and features present, timezone-aware conversion, enum mapping and unknown-type fallback (warning logged once), never-triggered (""/"0") and malformed values.
  • Full suite and pre-commit run --all-files (ruff, mypy, doc8) pass.
  • Verified against the real C200: last_alert_timestamp follows movements in front of the camera within the poll interval.

Notes

  • Rebased on master; the C200 fixture from Add C200 device fixture #1760 is covered by the same parametrization.
  • Naming: "alert" rather than "alarm" since SmartCamAlarm already refers to the siren; feature ids follow the *_timestamp convention (water_alert_timestamp, last_clean_timestamp).

I would think about the naming the make it more descriptive about what it is about. The alert/alarm type could be an enum for nicer API, even when it would be just "motion" or "unkown" (as a fallback if the value does not exist, with a warning log for the initial trigger).

Expose the timestamp and type of the last detection reported by SMARTCAM
devices through `getLastAlarmInfo`, as `last_detection_timestamp` and
`last_detection_type` features.

The value is refreshed by the camera within a second of a detection, does
not require an SD card and is available on every fixture that has the
`detection` component (hubs excluded), which makes it a lightweight local
alternative to ONVIF for polling consumers such as Home Assistant.
…sing

Hub child modules are only refreshed once a day, which would leave the
last detection stale and defeat the purpose of polling it, so the module
is not registered on hub children (e.g. D230 behind an H200).

Timestamps outside the range supported by `datetime.fromtimestamp()` are
now reported as None like other unparseable values.
…d LastAlertType enum

Address review feedback on python-kasa#1762:
- Rename the module to LastAlertDetection; "Alarm" is avoided because
SmartCamAlarm already refers to the siren module.
- Rename the features to last_alert_timestamp / last_alert_type.
- Expose the alert type as a LastAlertType StrEnum, falling back to
Unknown with a one-time warning per unknown value. An empty value still
maps to None (nothing reported yet), consistent with the timestamp.

Just a minor nit and this is good to go, please avoid rebasing (if unnecessary) after reviews as they will cause dangling comments :-)

## [0.11.0](https://github.com/python-kasa/python-kasa/tree/0.11.0)
(2026-10-04)

[Full
Changelog](0.10.2...0.11.0)

**Release summary:**

This is a huge and long overdue release, coming more than a year and a
half after the previous one.
Hopefully the next one follows sooner, as the TPAP transport (which did
not make it into this release) is used more and more on newer devices.

This release brings broader camera support, new modules for lights,
vacuums and cameras, and many connectivity fixes for newer firmware
versions. Some other highlights:
- Improved Tapo camera support: login version 3, presets, wifi handling,
last alert detection, and more robust authentication and discovery.
- Selective room cleaning for robot vacuums.
- Configurable light strip length via the new strip segment module, and
an exposed light transition state change flag.
- Basic HomeKit module for Kasa (iot) devices.
- Energy monitoring V2 support (S515D).
- Better hub and thermostat state reporting (hold, summer mode, low
battery).
- Connection fixes for newer Tapo firmware and older SSL devices, plus
KLAP v2 for iot devices.
- More resilient time handling, with failover and UTC fallback for iot
devices.
- Python 3.14 is now supported.
- Inclusion of fixtures for 29 devices or firmware versions, including
the Tapo C460, C200 and C101 cameras and the KH100 hub with KE100/KE110
thermostats.
