Best Healers To Use In Marvel Rivals If You Play Overwatch

4 [4]
Drew Ferguson has been obsessively discussing games, movies, comic books, and book-books his entire life. Somewhere along the way, he learned the dark art of putting words in an order that (some) people find cool, formally known to the world as writing. It's a skill that's led him down many different roads, some dark and some light, gaining secret powers and forbidden knowledge. Since then, he's written many things, like comic books (MALICENT BLACK, SAM AND HIS TALKING GUN, with more to come), book-books (THE BLEEDING CITY, with more to come), and currently writes many a thing for TheGamer. His journey through this world is still in its beginning, and while there are other worlds than these, he's still looking forward to seeing all of the secrets this world holds.

Summary

  • Marvel Rivals has three key character classes: Vanguard, Strategist, Duelist, equivalent to Tank, Healer, and Damage Dealer.
  • Strategist Heroes in Marvel Rivals focus on healing allies and offer similarities to healing characters in Overwatch 2.
  • Unique Marvel Rivals characters like Loki and Rocket Raccoon provide easy access to healing and can be challenging for enemies to deal with.

Marvel Rivals has three different character classes, or roles: Vanguard, Strategist, and Duelist. While they may have different names than classes in other games, they do fill the usual roles that those games contain, which is Tank, Healer, and Damage Dealer.

Strategist Heroes are the support heroes, usually enabling their teammates to have an easier time in the fight, with many of their abilities healing allies. Some of these heroes have some similarities to healing characters from Overwatch 2, so if you're accustomed to healing in Overwatch and giving Marvel Rivals a go, here are some of the things you might find familiar.

Updated on December 16, 2024 by Drew Ferguson: Marvel Rivals has added a couple of new Healer heroes for the full launch of the game, and players coming over from playing Overwatch 2 might want to see how these Marvel Rivals Healers compare to their Overwatch cousins. There is a bit of crossover between them, and playing a Healer that works in a familiar way will make for an easier transition into Rivals.

7 Cloak And Dagger

Shadow And Light

Cloak and Dagger most closely resemble Moira in Overwatch 2; not just aesthetically, though they both do function on a light/dark visual hook, but functionally, as well. Both of these characters (or set, but we'll refer to Cloak and Dagger as one character for simplicity's sake) have a healing and damaging primary attack, to start.

Moira can also turn invisible, which is something that Cloak and Dagger can do for allies. Separately from these abilities, Cloak and Dagger start to play a bit differently from Moira. They have one ability that functions differently depending on if you're Cloak or Dagger at the time; one debuffs enemies, the other heals allies.

But, both of these characters excel at a combination role, being a Healer that can put out a tremendous amount of healing, but also contribute quite a bit of damage, setting them apart from some other characters in their class.

6 Jeff The Land Shark

Cue The Jaws Theme

Jeff is a pretty unique character, and his resemblance to Overwatch Healers is more by way of him being a similar support-style, and not that he has things that functionally work the same. Jeff can both be an outrageously powerful healer in a single-target healing setting, and also put down an entire team of enemies with his ultimate.

Jeff's primary heal is his Joyful Splash, which is a beam-style water-jet that fires out of his mouth. This provides an incredible amount of healing to allies that are hit by the beam, but it's difficult to hit multiple allies with the heal, unless they line up. For players familiar with Mercy, this heal can be thought of in a similar way, working well when you attach at the hip to a Tank.

But Jeff also has movement abilities that can make him difficult to hit; though they don't work in the same way, they're similar in function to Lucio and Kiriko, where it can help keep them from getting dropped as easily in a heavily-contested area.

5 Adam Warlock

The Golden Man

With a ton of abilities suited directly towards healing teammates, Adam Warlock is one of the most focused healers of the bunch. One of his abilities bonds the souls of a group of allies, granting them all healing over time, and distributing damage between all of them. While not a 1:1 comparison, this is a group heal over time that fulfills a similar function to Lucio in Overwatch. Another ability of his revives nearby allies with reduced health, but a short invincibility period, slightly similar to Mercy's revival ability.

Adam Warlock is one of the best options in the game if you're looking to focus almost entirely on healing. If Warlock can keep his eye on the entire group, he can distribute healing among all of his allies, ensuring no one player is taking the brunt of the damage. Keep in mind one player getting pounded by enemy damage can hurt the entire team with their antics, so keeping the team playing as a unit will be more important than it already is.

4 Loki

The God Of Mischief

True to his nature, Loki excels at creating confusion for the enemy team. He has a primary ability that can heal, making healing with Loki easily accessible, like with Baptiste or Bridgette, despite not having a ton of abilities focused on it. His only other healing ability turns damage dealt to allies in a certain radius into healing, instead. Apart from that, Loki has abilities that create illusions, swap him with illusions, deal significant damage from behind, and allow him to impersonate other characters.

Loki is best in the hands of a player with a breadth experience, one that knows what the enemy might be expecting and how to exploit it. He might not have a wide variety of healing abilities, but just by stopping enemies from being as focused, they'll do less damage that would need to be healed anyway. In the right situation, Loki can deal serious damage, making him a character with a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling.

3 Mantis

The Guardian's Guardian

Mantis has some similarities to a few different healers in Overwatch. Some of her abilities can both heal allies and also increase damage over time, putting her in a similar territory to characters like Zenyatta, Baptiste, and Mercy. She also has a passive movement boost for herself while she's at full health, giving her a speed buff similar to Lucio, though it's a personal buff and isn't active in a radius around her. She also has an ability that can put enemies to sleep, like Ana.

Marvel Rivals: Best Tank Characters For Overwatch Players

If you were a tank in Overwatch and want to try what's up in Marvel Rivals, here are some picks that might make you feel at home. At least a bit.

Posts

Overall, Mantis is a very active healer in Marvel Rivals, with her abilities requiring constant attention and maintenance. Her ultimate ability is a healing and movement boost for herself and allies around her, making for a kind of combination between Zenyatta and Lucio, enabling her to really save her team when it matters most.

2 Rocket Raccoon

He Needs That Guy's Arm

Rocket is another Strategist that has easy access to healing as one of his primary abilities, firing bouncing spheres that heal allies, similar to Moira's Biotic Orbs. A little bit of geometry can help you get the most out of these spheres. He also has easy access to a revive, with an ability that can periodically supply teammates with armor packs. He can give allies damage boosts in a similar way to Zenyatta, and has some movement options that, combined with his size, can make him a difficult target to hit.

Rocket is a great irritant for the enemy team, with his ability to supply easy heals while making himself difficult to dispatch. He can get his allies back on their feet, walking back enemy progress, and can make allies more difficult to put down in general with his armor packs. He's got abilities to fulfill a myriad of possibilities, and in the right hands, can be a terror for the other team to deal with.

1 Luna Snow

The K-Pop Star

Luna Snow might be an unfamiliar character to some. Her abilities mostly have a twofold effect, dealing damage to enemies and healing allies. One of her healing abilities attaches to an ally to passively heal them, similar to how one of Zenyatta's heals work, while one of her passive abilities enables her to ice skate if she continues moving, giving her movement a similar flavor to Lucio's skating.

Similar to Rocket, Luna Snow can be a difficult target to keep track of because of her speed, enabling her to get in and out, healing allies and harming enemies without sticking around too long to get put down. Her great ultimate ability either heals every ally inside of a certain radius, or buffs their damage. It's an ultimate that can be useful in a couple of different scenarios: if your team is on their back foot in an important moment, the healing can keep everyone standing. If the team needs to make one more big push during the climactic moment, switching that over to a damage buff can help snag your team that win.
